The biggest surprise of Pukkelpop? This DJ set by ethnomusicologist Brian Shimkovitz. Around 2001 an American in Ghana became addicted to the West African cassette tape culture. He got his fix from African disco, soul and bizarre ethno pop. Now he shares his passion through a blog and the Awesome Tapes from Africa label.
